A research group led by Junichiro Horikawa, Sonoka Sagara, and Taro Yuba focused on experimental pixel-based expressions. Reviving sub-pixel technology and embracing pixel-level detail, they explore new visual typography representations from both digital and physical perspectives.

px_periment is a visual expression research group consisting of three designers and programmers who meet every Friday at 10 PM on Zoom to engage in creative activities. In this piece, we focus on low-resolution pixel representation, a subject that has long fascinated us. We created a work that displays pixel-patterned images of ourselves at different resolutions on the left and right screens. The difference in appearance—where sometimes the image looks like a human figure and at other times like a mass of color pixels—raises the question: What causes this variation? How does the appearance change depending on the distance from the screen?
Related to the exhibition’s theme, “Dialog(),” this work explores the relationship between “Two Pixelated Images and Myself.” What resolution would you choose to leave yourself in? Press the button and find out your answer.
px_perimentは、毎週金曜22時にZoomで集まり、作品制作活動を行う3人のデザイナーとプログラマーによる視覚表現研究グループです。本作品では、私たちが長年興味を抱いてきた低解像度のピクセル表現に焦点を当て、ピクセル・パターン化された自分の映像を異なる解像度で左右の画面に映し出す作品を制作しました。カメラ越しに映る映像が、ある時は人の姿に、またある時はカラーピクセルの塊に見えるこの違いは、何によって引き起こされるのでしょうか。それらの見え方は、画面からの距離によってどのように変化するでしょうか。
